China's Mandatory National Standard GB 26572-2025 for RoHS Officially Released, Effective from 2027

On August 1, 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China) officially approved and released the mandatory national standard GB 26572-2025 Requirements for Restricted Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products, which will come into effect on August 1, 2027. This standard is the first mandatory national standard in the field of China RoHS control, and its implementation will further deepen the restrictions on hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products.

On April 14, 2025, the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the completion of the drafting of three mandatory national standards, including the "Requirements for Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products" (see Attachments 1 and 2). The ministry is now soliciting public comments. The public comment period ends on April 21, 2025. China RoHS Adds Four New Phthalate Restrictions

On June 29, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China) issued the "Announcement on the Approval and Release of 109 National Standards and 4 National Standard Amendments" (National Standard Announcement [2024] No. 14), hereinafter referred to as the "Announcement". The content of the Announcement includes: No.1 amendment to GB/T 26572-2011 "Requirements of Concentration Limits for Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products", which is a supporting measure for China RoHS. The amendment includes the addition of restrictions on phthalate substances. This amendment will officially come into effect on January 1, 2026.

China RoHS Standard Amendment No. 1 has Passed Expert Review, Restrictions on 4 Types of Phthalates Implemented

On May 19, 2023, the Technical Committee for Hazardous Substance Testing Methods (SAC/TC297/SC3) of the National Standardization Technical Committee for Environmental Standardization of Electrical and Electronic Products and Systems organized a technical review meeting in Beijing for the first amendment of the national standard GB/T 26572-2011 'Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products.' During the meeting, the reviewing experts attentively listened to the drafting team's report on the process, content, and relevant materials of the amendment. They conducted a rigorous review of the technical content and textual format of the submitted draft and unanimously agreed to pass the review of the GB/T 26572 amendment. They also recommended submitting a complete set of approval documents to the National Standards Committee for further modification based on the opinions expressed in this review meeting, in order to expedite its approval and implementation.
